A tiled pool beside the rice fields — not an inflatable one. In the late afternoon the light slants across the water, with rippling paddies and the mountains along the Annong River in the distance. The kids never want to get out; the grown-ups sit at the edge and watch the sky slowly change colour.
In Taipei, Genben Travel (根本在旅行) is a small map of Japanese coffee: four shops in Xinyi, Changchun, Nangang and Neihu, serving beans roasted by artisans in Okinawa, Kyoto and Osaka — every cup a little journey to Japan. In Yilan, that same spirit slowed down and became Genben House: a farmhouse among the rice fields, a long solid-wood table, premium Sleepy Tofu mattresses and a lawn made for running. The same people, the same eye for detail — only this time you can stay another night and watch one more sunset over the Annong River.

Freshly made sandwiches from a local breakfast shop, delivered to the house the next morning. No need to go out — sleep in and enjoy breakfast whenever you are ready. Please order in advance.
Book the whole house, or choose a room: 201 double with field views, 202 double with a soaking tub, 203 double with mountain and field views, 301 spacious quad, and 101 Japanese-style double. Every room has a Sleepy Tofu mattress and the countryside right outside the window.
